Client Session ~ Jake the Jack Russell Terrier in Brisbane
Anyone who has owned or come across a Jack Russell Terrier in their lives will know they are usually pretty cool little dogs. Jake is certainly no exception! At a grand old age of 17 years, Jake is more travelled than most of us, originally hailing from the UK. His mum and dad made the move to Australia about 8 years ago, so of course their beloved boy Jake had to come too.
Jake comes from a long line of Jack Russell Terriers owned by his mum Karen’s family, in particular her dad. They have records dating back to Jake’s great, great grandfather, how cool is that! Needless to say, there have been a few JRT’s around over the years, but none of them yet have lived to Jake’s grand age.
When he was younger and living back in the UK, Jake’s favourite pastime was chasing rabbits, though chasing frizbees and tennis balls came a close second. When he first moved to Australia (at the age of 10, no less) he continued on with his favourite activity and additionally loved to sunbathe and soak up the beachy lifestyle.
He had to give up this pastime a couple of years ago as the mind was willing but the body definitely wasn’t. These days he is more than happy with a walk by the foreshore, though on the day of our photoshoot he reverted back to his earlier days with quite a lot of running up and down the beach showing off for the camera!
Jake is obviously so very loved by his mum and dad, who are totally dedicated to him.
Though he’s had a couple of health issues in the past, he is still obviously loving life and was completely at home on the Sandgate foreshore in Brisbane, where we started off his photo session.
After he’d had his fill of running up and down the beach (which took longer than you’d think!) we moved around the point to the Shorncliffe foreshore, near the Sandgate pier. There is a lovely little park there and we took the opportunity to settle Jake there for some portraits. He was quite obviously enjoying the late afternoon sunshine!
Around the corner a little, the manicured parkland gives way to beach and big pink sandstone rocks. Perfect for exploring, and the odd bit of posing as well.
Towards the end of the day, it was family portrait time and I think we’d worn out Jake enough that he was quite happy sitting and posing with his mum and dad.
He was quite happy to give his mum some kisses too!
I love it when my clients choose an image to display as a large canvas in their home, so I was absolutely delighted when Karen and Graham chose this shot of Jake, definitely one of my favourites from the session.
And here’s the finished product!
I’ll end this post with some words from Karen about her very special little man –
“He is the most fun, friendly, loving and faithful little dog that anyone could wish for and we are so lucky to have had him all this time… and for some time to come we hope.”
Thanks for the opportunity to meet and get to know your little family, Karen and Graham!
