During a trip to the Queenstown/Arrowtown area of New Zealand early last summer, Craig (my Unleashed Education co-founder) and I met up with our friends Merran and Mady at Glenorchy. You may have seen Benson in both our images previously - he's definitely our favourite dog model in the area and we always meet up with him and his mum Merran for some fun dog photography adventures!
Kara was one of our wonderful dog models at Unleashed Workshop in Arrowtown, and I loved her look and energy so much I got her back for her very own shoot along Arrowtown River after the workshop, as we were lucky to stay for a few extra days.
I thought it was time to share few of my favourite images from this year's Style Lab Retreat in Iceland in September/October. What an incredible landscape, so full of raw and rugged beauty! Our photography sessions took place against awe-inspiring backdrops: powerful waterfalls, surreal black sand beaches, a towering glacier, and the intriguing geology of lava fields.
Let's rewind to Autumn this year, in beautiful Arrowtown, New Zealand. Craig and I had finished up teaching at Unleashed Workshop but hadn't had enough of shooting with those incredible autumn backdrops, so we met up with some of our favourite models for some extra shoots!
I can't believe it, our youngest Aussie is three today. I missed his second birthday as I was away in NZ playing in the snow, so here's two years worth of "best of Enzo" photos to make up for it. Most often referred to as Wee Man or Mr Pickle, Enzo is the laziest of our Aussies, declining to engage in competitive fetch games but always happy to snatch the toy when the others come in close range, proudly bringing it back to us to take the credit.
Happy 8th birthday to my #1 model, Fletcher! He's still got it, and doesn't look a day over 2, wouldn't you agree? Not really showing any signs of slowing down, but his opinions about things are only getting stronger with age. Still loves his dad the best!
My favourite local beach shooting location at Bribie Island is just magical in winter! Craig was visiting me from New Zealand for Unleashed Education related stuff and we needed a break from all the pet photography education planning we were doing, so we asked my friend Kay from Brisbane pet supply store Chew Chomp and Chill to bring along her new pup, gorgeous Husky boy Rider, for us to photograph.
A selection of my favourite images from Unleashed Workshop 2023 - held in Arrowtown in April this year. Such a magical experience shooting in the autumn colour!
I've just finished editing this session and wow, this would have to go down as one of my favourite sessions ever. The combination of amazing dog (Alis the Malinois is just super), awesome owner (totally up for adventure and all my crazy ideas), the location really turning it on and of course the most important thing - the light co-operating on the day.
I’ve just finished editing the photos I took at Barkelona 2022 - our most recent pet photography retreat held in Spain in September. I teach these workshops alongside Nicole from Hair of the Dog Academy and Kaylee and Sam from Dog Breath Photography. This was actually the second time we’d held a “parka” workshop at this location - in 2016 we held our very first Barkelona here!
Happy birthday to my special little lady Opal today! She's spent the morning so far getting wet, dirty and disgusting with her Grandad who is visiting - so instead of a birthday photo from today, here's a selection of nice photos that I've taken since her last birthday.
Have you ever seen a cuter pair of pups? By the way, no digital trickery was involved in this photo. These two lovely girls really sat there so nicely next to each other with their hand-made flower collars, in a busy off-leash dog park. Gold stars for them!
We've just finished sending through all the beautiful images taken at our winter Unleashed Workshop 2022, to the owners of the wonderful dog models we had in Arrowtown. Here's a selection of favourites that I took in between teaching our students.
What better way to celebrate your pup's birthday, than organising their very own photo shoot? Echo is a very cute, soft and fluffy Coton de Tulear but as I soon learned, he's not just a pretty face! This little guy is full of personality.
Oh my gosh where do I even start to describe this wonderful dog! I met Alis at the beach (hands-down my favourite location) last week for her session and WOW did she impress! She's an obedience champion so of course she was impeccably behaved, however she also really surprised me in a number of other ways.
I can't believe it's been 7 years with this guy already. From day one he was Marty's dog and nothing has changed - he is still obsessed with his dad and has to be with him at all times! He has very definite ideas about things and is a real "thinker" - carefully analysing situations and then loudly voicing his opinion or silently protesting.
Is there a happier sight in the world than a wet sandy dog enthusiastically digging a hole at the beach? I think not! I've been loving this Brisbane winter weather and what better place to spend a clear sunny afternoon than at the beach with a girl and her beloved Lab.
Scotland is basically my favourite place in the world and to be able to spend so much time there while also passing on my dog photography skills and knowledge to our attendees, was nothing short of amazing! My favourite location was the shores of Loch Tay, about ten minutes down the road from the manor house where we stayed.
Nala is definitely more of an action superstar than a cover model, but along with all the obligatory action shots of her chasing her ball through the waves and over logs, we also ended up with some lovely images of Kate and Nala together, and some rather stately portraits of Nala striking a pose in true Doberman fashion!
Meet Walter and Angus! After reading their session questionnaire I was expecting a pair of rather boisterous pups, but instead these two little guys impressed me a lot with their modelling skills - even popping up on rocks to pose.
